Lincolnshire now has a greggs area manager and the shop in Skegness should be open sometime in 2010 or early 2011,

Its very seasonal there, unless they'd do what Subway do and close for about 4 months of the year. |
There are locals who would like a Greggs in Ingoldmells you know Martyn. It may be quiet out of season, but there are, believe it or not, people living here ALL year round.
However, why we need yet another Bakery in Skegness when there is already an abundance of Bakeries in town, I do not know. There are even TWO Bakeries right next door to each other!!

Personally I think Greggs is over priced and under quality but I suppose it must be just me 'cos it's always packed with custom.

Can I just say that some shops do open expecting a loss but its only the big boys that do it, they work on the assumption that if they undercut all local shops they will force them out so in long term will become profitable and the only shop in the town/village.

Sounds good to me. In fact all the Bakeries in town, and there are loads of them, could all re-locate to the M&S building. Imagine all those delicious pastries etc, all under one roof.

Sue is correct I believe, Vanman greggs dont bake the bread on premises it comes from central bakery in Birmingham but its fresh every day and no bread is used for next day, all sandwiches are made fresh on the premises every hour, the pasties, sausage rolls, etc are baked fresh in front of shop.

Steve
I got that information from a sainsburys regional manager and he said tesco do much the same, thats why they are everywhere. Or they take over local supermarket and turn it into SAinsburys/Tesco local, Sainsburys did this with The Jackson chain,

Yeah there are quite a few bakeries in town, but I'd rather see a bakery than an empty shop or another cheap/tacky shop.

One man's tack, is another man's treasure.
Yes, I agree an open shop is better than a closed shop, but why the need for more bakeries is beyond me.
I mean, and this is speaking hypothetically, if every time a shop closes shop and then re-opens as another bakery or another betting shop or whatever, the range of shops in Skegness is soon going to become very limited.
