I did mention something in another about these, but not news over there yet either.

Why is this taking so long when the Square Peg site is not too far off completion?

Hi,
Cant do a thing till planning permission is fully granted by ELDC, the Square Peg was not totally destroyed in their fire so they are in a position to build the site before the final planning permission is granted.

Taj are you not concerned about the new legislation on adult entertainment (your gentleman's club) that assuming your current plans are approved as is, there will be resident complaints in the future because it's in a building with family facilities?

Currently there's nothing residents or the planners can do to stop you mixing adult/family entertainment in the same space, but in April that changes.

Would I be right in understanding your proposed plans that the entrance to the building, lifts, stairs, toilets etc... will be shared use for those using the ice skating rink and the gentleman's club and other bars?

And most of the bars will be open at times when the ice skating rick is open (say 7pm on a Saturday evening)?

Trying to figure out how much of a threat your current plans will have on the children of Skegness and it's younger visitors.

David

Hi David
it poses no more of an issue than say
the childrens area below the marine boathouse bar
the bar located in the suncastle
the bar located above the BJs arcade in ingoldmells
the childrens area in fantasy island and the various adult bars in the venue like castaway bar
the family area and the adults area at the lookout bar in ingoldmells
the family area and grownups bar at the villager in ingoldmells.
Some of the anove are better examples than perhaps some others.
Cheers

Well all of them you listed, apart from one, are just drinking establishments, not 'sexual entertainment venues'...

Yes
but david mentioned the time of 7pm.
As i mentioned before the gentlemans club operates at a much later time.
So I gave 7pm examples

Also night club type bars are not exactly family bars.

So you can't seriously compare say a family pub where people tend to drink socially when kids are around with a night club where it's not family orientated and the drinking is more binge drinking. Basically different atmospheres, different people attracted.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong Taj, that many of the bars planned are night club like bars designed to attract young men and women in bulk for a good time drinking lots of alcohol while listening to loud music, not family friendly?

As a side note I don't have a problem with you building night club type bars, (if it works as a business I can understand you milking it) when I was younger and I'd holiday in Skegness with friends for a long weekend and go to night clubs I'd have been drawn to the sort of facility you have planned and I'd have been pissed out my head every night and had a good time.

David

Come on David, apply a bit of intelligent reasoning.
Night clubs are typically 11pm onwards venues! You surely know that.
The Family venue will primarily be used in the day times and early evenings.
I’ve stated the reasoning on numerous previous posts and given examples.
Perhaps you would like to do some field research, as I have done, and then I’m sure you’ll see that it can quite easily work.

IB,
Putting the facilities on the top floor are my way of giving something back to the town, a facility that we could really do with, if it seems that it might not be what the majority want, then I can quite easily scrap the Ice Skating Rink idea and put it to other use.
But from talking to many people over the months, they seem to be happy with the proposal.

Hey IB,
The fact that this Ice Rink has a chance of working where others may have failed is because the lower floors including the Lap Dancing Club will be subsidising the top floor, thus helping keep prices reasonable and giving it mre of a chance of working well.

On a completely differen't note, I'd like to see a new family 'bar' that stays open 'til late at night, like The Square Peg used to.

I'd imagine the new Beachside tavern stay open late, but only in summer?

It really is surprising how many children you will see out with their families late at night in Skeg.
